I am nothing if not impulsive. Sometimes I think I totally need to change that. At other moments, like right now, for example, I relish the fact that I can take a wild leap without so much as sleeping on the decision.
Case in point: after a rather wonderful phone call on Tuesday, I up and booked a March 1st flight to Vancouver with a final destination: Vancouver Island. (I even booked a most delightful cottage for the week owned by a sacred bee keeper<— crazy town in the best way, am I right?).
Spontaneity. It should totally freak me out, but it doesn’t.
In other news, I have put all puppy adoption activity on the back burner. This decision is NOT going to be spontaneous. This decision is going to be deeply thought through. And right now, much as it might help Daisy — it is not something I can take on.
However, . . drumroll please. . . . in other totally spontaneous news —
Dave is driving down here tomorrow with Oliver!
Yes– Daisy’s older brother (her very wild older brother) is going to come and spend an extended stay with us in the hopes it is good for all. We’ll see. Ollie hasn’t ever spent time living in a city — but I think it’s gonna work out and I think a certain little lassie is gonna be quite delighted to have a 24/7 canine connection.
Fingers crossed that the mischief is contained to stealing my socks out of the laundry basket!

I rode around on motorcycles a bit in my youth. I loved it. It was similar to the thrill of hauling ass on horseback. It's funny that you posted that photo of those gals on bikes because I've been thinking recently how much I'd love to feel that thrill again. I have a kooky back, so the horse thing cannot happen, but maybe the motorcycle? Of course, that's scary because if I fell, oy!!! xo kd (aka Cornball) P.S. Ollie has those crazy eyes! So happy for Miss Daisy that she gets to spend time with her big brother. I hope it works out for you and the pooches. I have to say Soliden looks beautiful. I know you've had your issues living so far out in the boonies but do you ever miss that gorgeous view? You'll have to give the deets on the cottage, like how you found it to rent. I would say that kind of spontaneity is living life. I once hopped a Greyhound bus from Texas to Colorado one day cause I was bored. I ended up living in the top floor of a mansion that was furnished with beautiful antiques for a year. Rent- $150 a month. Then got a wild hair to go back to Texas. That kind of living filled my wild soul. I still have that wild yearning and wish I had the luxury of time for that kind of spontaneity. So go for that kind of living, even if it scares you. Right! 🙂

WOW– your Texas – Colorado sojourn sounds amazing! yeah, I am all about living deeply right now— probably an age thing when you start to realize you only have this day so get out there! and, I loved Soliden madly, truly, deeply — but I don't miss it, which is as weird for me to write as you can imagine. The thing is, it was living in the woods .. . and I really need open spaces– big wide open space . .. but it is pure magic and I am blessed beyond reason that I ever got to call it home. xo
When my dog Patches passed after 10 years of love my heart was broken and over time as we began to heal the kids wanted another dog and I said wait. I just knew if I asked the universe to bring me the right puppy at the right time then it would unfold just as it should. So we waited and waited and they whined and fussed and called a family meeting and I said no. Then one day I was driving to work and a truck pulled out in front of me abruptly, I of course noticed it and the license plate said Patches2… I smiled and knew a puppy would soon find our family. Within a few weeks my sister emailed me pictures of some puppies of a dog who had been rescued. My mother picked one out for us and beautiful Maggie came into our lives at exactly the right time and she has been great joy from day one. Two years later I am so grateful for her sunny joyous nature and the gift she is to our home. Just one more reason to trust the flow. Go with your heart and if a new puppy is for you, he or she will find you at exactly the right time. Hope Daisy feels better soon, a broken heart is a slow recovery for all of us… especially those who love unconditionally. Sending you much love tonight. And VANCOUVER ISLAND sounds delicious!

I think a visit from OLIVER is the PERFECT thing for Daisy! I hope that stealing socks is the end of it as well, because that other stuff? While it is fine for a HUMAN to have that kind of spontaneity (they can talk, and type…so people KNOW WHERE THEY ARE) dogs are another story altogether. I can't wait to see him in your daily photos. I have missed him! xo

Hello and how amazing to have a vistor of the canine kind for Daisy! So much fun without the long-term (yet) respnsibility. As someone who works at a humane rescue society I appalud you wanting to do right by the dog you adopt. Yay! Plus I am sure that Daisy will relish in her top dog position as High Princess for awhile longer. Have fun with the bee keeper in march!

At some point you must take a detour and head over to Granville Island http://granvilleisland.com/ I heard French spoken there (!) and it is a wonderful artsy place to visit. Also take a walk/drive through Stanley Park. There is a really beautiful pathway lined with maple trees that is magical. Hopefully they haven't raked up the leaves because in October (2009) it was ablaze!

Oh my goodness…what a perfect, absolutely PERFECT solution. I want to slap my own forehead and say “DUH!” I mean, we all know Ollie is a wild child but he can definitely be Daisy's buddy as she navigates life without Henry. Puppies are such a huge commitment – wonderful, darling joys – just like babies, honestly.
