Outside my window bright green maple leaves bounce lightly in the breeze, their ridged tips dipped in orange and scarlet. The sky is that French ouvrier blue, scudded with long, narrow bands of white clouds whose soft edges are illuminated by the morning sun.
It’s early here and I don’t normally start my day spilling out a post (I know that used to be my habit, once upon a time, long ago), but this will likely be the last time I will be in here for quite a spell and if I don’t do it now– it will probably not happen at all.
Today I have to wrap up ALL the damn tasks that should’ve been wrapped up, oh– I don’t know, like a week ago. I have errands to run and need to pack for a trip tomorrow– yes! When would be the perfect time for my best friend to get married? gosh– how about the Sunday before September SAW? Ideal, really.
(I know– ideal for her– a lovely beach wedding down in Truro– one of my favorite places in the world, but oh my, logistically? Could we spread things out a bit more next time?)
Anyway. It’s all good. A normal person wouldn’t even blink- de rigueur, I suppose. Give over to it– just flow, right? I’m thinking that might be a new approach– just not worry so much about getting it all right– so what you forgot the grocery list, the hair brush, dog beds or pajamas– it’ll all work out, right?
We’ll see— it’s been a strange couple of weeks for me. Mostly, I think, due to a lack of exercise. I have not done yoga in 3 weeks and it is really showing up for me. One thing I have learned about mental health (for me, not necessarily for you, entendu) is that I need lots of physical exercise. Nothing harsh or competitive like running for miles or doing a half-iron man or anything– in fact, I would never be able to do that– think Ferdinand the bull . . that’s me– la la la dee dah, but I DO need a couple hours a day of deep muscle work and stretching that yoga provides so beautifully.
But you know how it goes, you get into a slump, and then the energy it takes to get out of the slump seems to be more than you can do . . and blah blah blah. So, I am hoping this little weekend jaunt (which includes a Saturday morning yoga class with the bride) will jump start me a bit and I know I will be doing some yoga next week with Michelle so it will all sort itself out, we’ll see–
So heading off to a wedding weekend tomorrow– 150 people rolling in for SAW next week (we even have a woman traveling here all the way from Japan!!<—–! can you believe it?) which means, my little monastic mountain retreat will be rather quiet for the next 10 days or so.
