Monday, we went to the beach and found that bowers of bittersweet had begun to pop. Despite my deep love of the color orange, I am not a huge fan of bittersweet.
It’s fragile, tends to spill everywhere and, in this part of the world, ushers in the end of Autumn.
I’d love to type something like ‘the world is changing’ but ha– the world has always been changing, to think that things ever stay the same is a recipe for some serious unhappiness. I think that’s what I am so tuned into now — this constant evolution we are all a part of.
Gah. How did I end up here? I honestly sat down to write a love letter to Gaia. Oh well, I’ve got a whole month ahead of me to fulfill that, I guess.
Referencing Rita’s comment from yesterday’s post, I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to find such steady contentment and if the younger generations can clue into it sooner, all the better. One piece of it for sure, is to find a way to embrace ALL of it — all of life, the good, the bad, the horror and the sublime. You have got to say yes to ALL of it. And that is true for the microcosm of the world that is you, too. You have got to find a way to practice kindness and compassion for all the ways you fall short of your best hopes and desires for who you want to be in this world.
For me, it is one of the cornerstones. Compassion, not judgement, is the key to it all and it begins with how we treat ourselves.
and still be good enough. You can make mistakes and
still be capable and talented. You can let people down and
still be worthwhile and deserving of love. Everyone has disappointed
someone they care about. Everyone messes up, lets people down, and makes mistakes. Not because we’re inadequate or fundamentally
inept, but because we’re imperfect and fundamentally human.
Expecting anything different is setting yourself up for failure.”
