Friday morning, I went to the library, took out three dvds, brought them home, set up a make-shift tv scene (washstand + laptop) at the foot of my bed– then crawled under the covers with a dog snuggled in on each side of me and that is where I spent the next 72 hours.
Except for trips to the bathroom, the refrigerator, walking the dogs and traveling back to the library to get another six dvds, I did not leave that bed.
One of the movies I watched was No Reservations (which is a pretty lame remake of a really good Swedish film I had enjoyed years ago, but I loved it and sobbed all the way through it which felt awesome!) and in it the Catherine Zeta-Jones character keeps saying, “I’ve never done this, I’ve never done that” as she is pushed into new experiences (NOTE: she plays an uptight chef who has no life outside of work and can’t seem to get in touch with her feelings– so I couldn’t really relate to her at all)– and I was watching it on Saturday, sometime deep into this long weekend of bed rest and I thought– me, too. I have NEVER (as in my whole life long– never ever) laid in bed and watched movies. Really. Never.
And you know what? Um, yeah– one of the best things I have done for myself in a very long time.
Biggest surprise was what became my favorite flick of the weekend– I only grabbed it cause I needed a lot to choose from and library is free so if I hated it, who cared– only I LOVED it and watched it twice: The Jane Austen Book Club.
Have you guys seen this? So yummy. Maria Bello is flipping gorgeous, Emily Blunt is one of my most favorite actresses and Hugh Darcy pretty much owns me from now on (although he will have to be okay with the fact that I also belong to Mark Ruffalo, Alessandro Nivola and Aaron Eckhart).
This morning it is a full on busy work scene here with Lauren and Carol on task and me floating around trying not to forget the things I want to remember.
I am not 100 percent, but I am feeling better and really excited that as soon as I post this scribble I am headed back to bed. (Lauren brought Persuasion with her when she arrived last night and I have never seen it– so, good times ahead).
And then yesterday afternoon– my dear Lady Daffodilly came round with a dozen white roses, watercress, ginger tea and a giant bar of Lindt chocolate (which, naturally I consumed in one go) because she isn’t the busiest woman on the planet and has nothing but time to drive into the hinterlands and nurture her dear, dying friend. And as she drove off, what was in the field out the window?
Seriously, I kid you not.
Bisous, E
You have been missing out! Weekends in bed with dvd's … totally like, my favorite pastime. Come Monday morning, I feel deeply relaxed. An indulgent gift.
Beauty of a rainbow. xo
Um….you and I are going to have to share Aaron Eckhart.
So glad you are feeling a bit better. Lazy weekends are so good for the soul.

Ahhh. Bliss. So glad you rested and are feeling better. And even more glad that you have people that are near and taking care of you. Those roses could heal right through the screen, and with chocolate? Good God. xo
The Jane Austen Book Club. I loved the book and always hesitated to see the movie. I'll have to check if the library has it here.

i highly recommend “Departures” for a good cry & some “ah ha” moments…it's Japanese with subtitles, and after 5 minutes you swear you can understand the language. glad you're moving to an area with good medical care within decent driving distance…you make me worry.

Your gorgeous photo eye candy just put me in the best mood! Honestly, creamy, blush pink roses and a magical rainbow, what a combination! I hope you feel better and am sooo glad you watched movies in bed. Such bliss.
That rose is simply perfect. And what better way to really really rejuvenate than a day (mostly) in bed with DVDs?? BLISS!
Brilliant … good for you, sounds lovely.
