(I had the cabbage)

Well this doesn’t feel right.  Blogging on a SATURDAY morning—?  ick.  But when you agree to post every day in a month, guess that includes Saturdays . . . . sigh.

In this moment the sun is POURING into the apartment.  Truly gorgeous — Bella and her daughter Angie are here.
Good morning! Coffee and knitting before we hit the farmer's market! With @cirovicbella @evanescencefreak
Last night we went out to dinner to celebrate Bella’s birthday (it was earlier in November but hey, the whole month counts in my book) and had a killer meal.

Seriously– the restaurants in Providence are stellar.  This one, Chez Pascal, is a French bistro right down the street from me and it was soooooooo good.

Do you want me to give you a blow-by-blow of all that we ate?

No of course you don’t.

Even though that’s exactly what I made Bella recount from her trip last weekend to Quebec City.  You see, I LOVE to know about food— what people ate.  And this led us deeper into the conversation we were already having about journaling (Bella also wants to begin journaling but wants to personalize it differently — she wants her journal to capture elements of events, trips, etc — photos, concert tickets, scribbles, menus, notes about what was eaten<–!! ha)

I shared how my grandmother was a fabulous traveler — she loved to travel — and she kept these travel journals where each thing was itemized out — how much gas, miles, cost of hotel, dinner — etc – a wee bit boring to someone else I am sure– but I find those details just delightful.  How else would you remember?  The details are what bring it back to life.

For me, anyway.

Right now we are headed out to walk Daisy and then to the Farmer’s Market.

No time for anything more than this:  showing up for three minutes.

But!  some great responses I have gotten from last post (in comments and emails) that I will explore more deeply when I have time tomorrow morning.

Til then— enjoy this moment you are in!

bisous, e

I always try to keep a little travel journal full of details. It's so fun to revisit years after your trip.

Oh, my word. I love all those little details too! I would have LOVED a description of your meal. I would have been sitting right next to you, asking if I could please try a bite of that (cabbage, was it?)….and please pass that good crusty bread. Photos are stellar as always Miss Elizabeth. xo

it was soooooo good! if you go to the link of the restaurant– you can read through the menu! they write up the descriptions pretty fabulously– though they had two specials last night: roasted mussels and a cod dish that were insanely good …

When I first started journaling I would only write my thoughts in poetry or journalesc style. I would have another notebook for different notes I wanted to take, grocery list, little memories. But too many notebooks to carry around became cumbersome and difficult to keep track in. So now all my notes, list, memories, reminders, poetry, journal entries….they all go into one place. And I am loving this method. It really is a reminder of my life in that moment. I love looking back on it.
